As you rocket your way to the top of your field, I know that crisis will occur from time to time.
Here are a few ideas that many of my clients and patients have found helpful in dealing with a crisis situation:
1. Respond to a crisis, don’t react, put a least a few seconds between the crisis and your response.
2. If your partner suddenly accuses you of theft and threatens to shut down the business, think before your speak or act. Action without thinking is the cause of many a failure.
3. In any crisis, establish control whenever you can over the situation. Don’t waffle. Take control. Most of all establish control over your behavior, thoughts attitudes and emotions.
4. Induce physiological harmony breathe deeply through your nose and relax your muscles as you breathe out. Do this a few time right in the heat of the battle.
5. Beware of negative emotions such as fear, anger, resentment, regret, envy or revenge. Embrace positive emotions like love, forgiveness, understanding.
6. Don’t blame. Don’t be defensive.
7. Take responsibility as you banish blame. Responsibility looks to the future and blame looks to the past.
8. Stay relaxed and stay lifted. Change your posture sit upright or stand tall and seek answers.
9. Be innovative. Listen more than you talk
10. Can you use the opportunity to get rid of cargo you don’t need?
11. Don’t inflame the crisis if it is an inter personal problem.
12. Back up to the source of your strength and move from inside and get the power on innovation on your side.
13. Don’t waste a crisis. Seize the opportunity to make positive change.
14. Reflect on your values and let them govern what you do
15. Tell the truth. Nothing deflates a crisis like the truth
16. Get counseling especially if you don’t need it.
17. Don’t defend yourself. Keep your ego out of it. Focus your attention on the business at hand
18. Get Social Support.
19. Learn all you can. Open your eyes and ears and most of all open your heart
20. Come out of this crisis a superior person.
21. Remember that the time to be happy is now.
