Stop a Stressor before it becomes Stress

When you come face to face with a stressful situation, remember that this is just the stressor. It is not stress yet, you have to turn it into stress for it to downgrade your health. So decide that you will never give that power to a stressful situation, you will use your brain and all your powers to cancel any negative impact that it might have on your heart, your immune system.

Here is one thing you can do to dismantle a stressor:

  1. Overlook it. If your partner calls you lazy and you are tempted to suffer, overlook it and move on.
  2. Every morning look at your calendar and review the impending events and prepare to deal with each one in a relaxed and efficient manner. Predict what will likely stress you out. See yourself having that painful meeting with your boss and prepare well for it. Prepare, not only by getting the correct facts, and by breathing slowly and evenly. Prepare by tensing your body and then letting all the tension go. Prepare by thinking that you will succeed.
  3. Plan to back away from any fights or unpleasant events that will bring you no benefits, IF YOU CAN. “In all the trade of war no feat is nobler than a brave retreat”.
