They say that time flies when we’re having fun. As some of you may have figured out, it even tends to fly when you are not having fun. The fact is, life is short – and, as a society, we spend much of our life in a series of busy, activity-filled days. How many times have you finally sat down in the evening on a very busy day, and felt like, for all of your buzzing about, you didn’t really accomplish anything of value?
Learning how to make the most of your busy days is important to your happiness, and the happiness of those close to you. When you have an overwhelming list of things to do, and myriad people to care for and please, it can be easy to become flustered and end up accomplishing very little. You can end up “spinning your wheels” – expending precious physical and emotional energy, while getting nowhere.
The good news? You can start taking control of your busy days today.
When you wake up in the morning with the rush of the day’s coming activities filling your head, STOP! Grab a notepad and pen, your phone, your tablet PC, whatever you use that is close at hand. Lay out your day so you can see what is coming, see what needs to be done. List your main goal or goals for the day, whether they are professional or personal, so you can work towards those goals and evaluate them at the end of the day. Write down tasks that you need and/or want to get accomplished, and list them out somehow in order of priority.
When you lay out your day in this manner, taking it from an overwhelming concept into something quantifiable, it takes a lot of stress and pressure off of you. You can see your goals, check them off as you meet them and feel empowered.
Making the most of your busy days means taking control, accomplishing your goals and thereby living a more fulfilling life.
