Warning: Time is Short

One of the biggest mistakes you may be making is to think that because you are healthy and young now, you can afford to waste a few more days, weeks, months or years engaging in behaviors and forming habits that may feel good for the moment but add no lasting value to your life. But you comfort yourself by saying “well I’m only 25” or whatever.

I had a very attractive 23-year old female patient whose major goal in life was to get married and become an outstanding mother of 4 children and raise a family of loving people that would be equipped to do great work in the world. She was inspiring. She also wanted to be a vet to mainly look after horses.

She was very fortunate that she had a clear picture of what she wanted her life to be. However she kept putting off the difficult steps that would prepare her for the future she wanted.

Whenever she was challenged to be more responsible, her excuse was always, “Oh, I’m only 23; I have lots of time.” So she flirted with lots of guys, postponed reading books about her dreams, and basically did what was fun and easy instead of what was hard and necessary.

And as you know Time has a way of whizzing by when you are having fun. In her case, time whizzed by so fast that she didn’t know what hit her.

The last time I saw her she was 49, single, overweight, depressed and she was working as a labourer in a farm owned by a vet whose dreams she is helping to fulfill.  She learnt no marketable skills, had no significant interpersonal appeal and she kept on remarking that she does not know where the time went.

You cannot begin too early to prepare for a healthy and successful life. I have seen 20 year-olds turn into 30 year-olds seemingly overnight.

Take care of your time. Spend it well. Get what you want out of life. Find out what that is and go after it.

Here are just a few simple rules that I encourage you to install in your daily routine now while you are young and healthy so that you will have great health and energy all your life and achieve outstanding success.

  1. Get rid of any hostile, hateful, vengeful feelings against anyone even if it is the most reasonable emotion to entertain under the circumstances.  Learn at an early age to forgive in an instance. Don’t hold grudges. They will stop you from being successful. Decide to forgive and do it from a position of strength. If you want to be bright with a clear mind, low blood pressure and wide arteries later on, you cannot afford to entertain negative feelings and emotions. They are injurious to your blood vessels and you cannot rise high in the world with terrible blood vessels.

  2. Become more sensitive to the whispers of dis-regulation and discomfort in your body so that at the slightest onset of stress or physiological dysfunction, you will be able to institute a technique to re-install physiological balance and superior energy.

  3. Breathe – for heaven’s sake breathe. Breathe now that you are healthy. Breathe now that you are young. Breathe with awareness, breathe with pleasure and breathe with a smile.

  4. Take a minute everyday to ask yourself why you are here, what’s the best use of your life. Do it over and over again and you will gain more personal power.

  5. Begin to guard your time and be careful whom you spend it with. Show me your associations, show me how you spend your time and I will show you where you are headed.

  6. Make a list of 5 practical verifiable goals that you want to achieve and keep looking at them everyday and do one thing everyday that will move you in the direction of your goal.

Try these 6 ideas. Actually practice them and you will be laying the foundations for a great life. Do it no matter your age, and the sooner you start the better.

And what better time to start! The best time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining.
